College Football Scores: Miami Hurricanes Role Past Charleston Southern in Opener

The Miami Hurricanes didn’t miss a single one of their seven suspended players as they opened the 2008 college football season with a 52-7 pounding of the Charleston Southern Buccaneers on Thursday night at their new home, Dolphins Stadium.

Miami never gave Charleston Southern a chance as they put 21 points on the board in the opening quarter with true freshman quarterback Jacory Harris doing most of the damage with a 30-yard TD run and a 7-yard touchdown pass to Leonard Hankerson.

By halftime the score was 28-0 and the Hurricanes pushed that to 35-0 early in the third when Graig Cooper took a punt back 66 yards for yet another Miami score. The Buccaneers finally got on the board when Tribble Reese completed a 2-yard TD pass to Tyrese Harris but Miami answered with a 5-yard touchdown run from Derron Thomas to lead 42-7 heading into the fourth.

Miami finished with 416 total yards, 190 coming from the arm of Harris who finished the night 16-26. In contrast the Buccaneers managed just 126 total yards.

The Hurricanes will face a much tougher task next week when they take on the #5 Florida Gators.
