Robert Paxton, president of an Iowa community college, resigned from his position on Thursday after a photo surfaced in which he was caught pouring alcohol into the mouth of a young woman.
The incriminating photo appeared in Saturday’s edition of The Des Moines Register and was believed to have been taken over the Fourth of July weekend at Lake Okoboji.
The Iowa Central Community College board of trustees approved Paxton’s resignation which will provide the former president with a severance package believed to be worth nearly $400,000.
While Paxton originally defended the photo, saying the keg he was holding as broken and was not dispensing beer, he opted to step down rather than face continued scrutiny from the school.
Board president Mark Crimmins noted, “Based on our discussions, it was determined that it would probably be in Dr. Paxton's best interest and the college's best interest that he resign as president.’
