This week is shaping up to be a critical one in embattled golf star Tiger Wood’s climb back to success.
Woods is in Wales for the Ryder cup, where he is set to trade ‘Team Woods’ for ‘Team USA.’ Admittedly Woods prefers to play a solitary game, and has never been overly enthusiastic about the Ryder Cup, but this year, Woods needs the win, as much as he needs the team mates, the friends, that the Ryder Cup endows.
"It would be great to get a win. I'm looking forward to getting out there and contributing and hope I can get some points and hopefully we can get this thing done." Woods commented after a practice round Tuesday.
This will be Wood’s sixth Ryder Cup, with the US record for previous years 1 win to 4 losses. In 2008 Woods missed to cup because of knee surgery, which was the year the US won.
Woods has been flailing in his career this year, amid the scandal of his marriage breakdown, so the Ryder Cup holds extra importance to revitalize not only his career, but his public image as well.
One reporter was so brazen as to ask the golfing star: "You don't win majors anymore, you don't win regular tournaments anymore. And you are about to be deposed by Europeans as the world No. 1, or [by] Phil Mickelson. Where is the Ryder Cup now that you're an ordinary golfer?"
With his world number 1 position under fire, this year Woods needs the Ryder Cup, more so than the Ryder Cup needs Woods.
