Dread Captain Robert and Abney Park Sail the Metaphorical High Seas in the Name of Steampunk

Robert Brown of the steampunk band Abney Park talks about the steampunk movement in an exclusive YourFindit Interview with Rebecca Firth.

Abney Park, a band where old world meets new world in a captivating mix of retro-science fiction, Victorian inspired futuristic fashion and airships, has been busy for the past two years developing the musical form of the quickly growing art movement known as steampunk.  Originally a goth industrial band, the band felt bored with the usual all black style.  Craving something new, the band explored the idea of steampunk and eventually evolved into the characters they are now.  Comprised of Robert “Dread Captain Robert” Brown, Kristina “Angel” Erickson, Daniel “It Was Supposed to Explode” C, Finn Von Claret and Nathanial “Two Sheds” Johnstone the band successfully established an identity that left the major pop culture convention DragonCon begging for more.

Songwriter, lead vocalist, darbuka player and pilot Robert Brown spoke with Rebecca Firth in a YourFindit interview about his band, the music and the idea behind it, steampunk.  Hear the Abney Park interview on the band’s YourFindit profile at www.yourfindit.com/abneypark.

Abney Park will be performing live at 11:30 pm August 29 in the Centennial Ballroom at Atlanta’s Hyatt Regency for this year’s DragonCon.  DragonCon is North America’s largest pop culture convention.  It is held each year in Atlanta, Georgia and attracts over 30,000 members each year.  For ticket and pricing information visit dragoncon.org.
