Dealing with Addiction Withdrawal

Knowing Addiction Withdrawal

This is something normal that occurs when a person is fighting a long-term addiction and wants to put an end to it. It is frustrating, yes; not only on the part of the friends or the family members but also on the part of the addicted person as well. It involves struggling with one’s own self to fight off the addiction.

Remember, if you are exerting effort to give support to an addicted person, the fact that he or she is amenable to any treatment program is also a sign that there is an attempt to reverse his or her addiction. Also bear in mind that he or she is going through a tough time because addiction is very difficult to challenge. One can’t combat it at a snap of a finger.

When we say that addiction is hard to challenge, we mean it. What happens when a person is happy or excited is that there is a particular hormone that is being secreted in the body. When this happens, the secreted hormone complements the feelings of happiness, thereby making it more laden with happy emotions. This is the same phenomenon that occurs when a person is addicted to drugs or alcohol. When a person becomes addicted, there is a hormone that is being secreted which is released only when person has enough fill of his or her addiction.

When it comes to addiction withdrawal, what we have to remember is that it is only temporary. Addiction lapses are only to be expected but they will not be there on a permanent basis since sooner or later, the body of the addicted person will get used to an alcohol-free or a drug-free system. Don’t expect changes to happen overnight since it also takes time for someone to recover from addiction.

If addiction withdrawal is still a major concern for you, then you can consult therapists and counselors how to deal with it. They can recommend you to rehabilitation centers where addicts can be taught to control their addiction. You need the help of experts to get the job done especially if the task at hand is too much for you to handle. According to research, though addiction withdrawal only means that there is a struggle and in that struggle, the chances of a successful treatment program as an intervention are very likely.
