President Jimmy Carter Leaves the Hospital

Two days after being rushed to a Cleveland hospital for an upset stomach, former President Jimmy Carter was released in good health Thursday afternoon. Carter, who will celebrate his 86th birthday on Friday, thanked well wishers and the medical team at MetroHealth Medical Center.

An ambulance met Carter’s plane at the Cleveland Hopkins International Airport on Tuesday and rushed him to MetroHealth. A spokesperson for the Carter Center said the former president was being held for observation.

Carter’s hospitalization forced him to cancel several events, including a book signing in Cleveland for his new book “White House Diary.” He will resume his schedule this week in Washington.
