Europe’s plans of regaining the Ryder Cup will come into play this Friday, when the coveted golfing tournament tees off. Team Europe will be lead by Colin Montgomerie whereas Team USA will be captained by Corey Pavin.
As the Europeans attempt to regain their crown at the championship, Corey Pavin is planning on achieving Team USA’s first ever victory on foreign soil. With the blueprints in place and spearheads drawn, the boys are set to go head to head, if the whether holds up.
Thursday came with Montgomerie’s announcement of opening with English veteran Lee Westwood and Germany’s reigning US open champion Martin Kaymer. Westwood and Kaymer will be playing against Phil Mickelson and Dustin Jhonson. A battle Montgomerie has high hopes of winning. According to Montgomerie, such a strategy will help Europe in gaining early momentum.
Pavin on the other hand has placed Tiger Woods third in the order of play. Woods, who used to lead the American front has now been assigned a lesser position. Woods and his partner Steve Sticker will be facing England’s Ian Poulter and Ross Fisher.
Regarding Tiger Woods, Montgomerie said, “I was expecting Tiger to go
first or fourth” he also added “Tiger being hidden is a different move.”
Besides placing Tiger Woods in third, Pavin had another surprising decision up his sleeve. Pavin decided on resting in-form players, Jim Furyk and Hunter Mahan.
Friday’s play had Northern Ireland's Rory McIlroy and Graeme McDowell facing Cink and Matt Kuchar in match two while US rookies Bubba Watson and Jeff Overton playing Luke Donald and Padraig Harrington in the fourth game.
