China Rattled by 5.7 Magnitude Earthquake, More than a Dozen Killed

At least 15 people were killed and more than 100 injured when a 5.7-magnitude earthquake struck the southwest province of Sichuan in China on Saturday.

The tremor’s epicenter was near Sichuan’s border with Yunnan province and was an estimated six miles deep. More than 1,400 homes were destroyed as a result of the quake, many of which had been constructed after the devastating earthquake that destroyed parts of Sichuan province three months ago.

On May 12 an estimated 70,000 people were killed when China was rocked by a 7.9 magnitude quake, More than 375,000 were injured and 10 million left homeless.
