2008 U.S. Open Results: Novak Djokovic Fights Way Past Robert Kendrick to Advance

Novak Djokovic survived a brutal first set with Robert Kendrick at the 2008 U.S. Open on Saturday and went on to win in straight sets 7-6 (10-8), 6-4, 6-4 to advance to the third round.

Djokovic played a controlled style of tennis against his American counterpart as he landed 71 percent of his first serves while limiting his unforced errors to just 13. In contrast Kendrick’s serves was inconsistent, while he totaled 19 aces he only put 57 percent of his first serves in play and committed 30 unforced errors.

Djokovic won the Australian Open earlier this year for his first Grand Slam title. Last year he fell to Roger Federer in the U.S. Open finals.
