2008 U.S. Open Results: Andy Roddick Pushes Past Ernests Gulbis to Advance to Third Round

Andy Roddick had to overcome a disappointing first set but the American regained his form and managed to get past Latvia’s Ernests Gulbis in four sets 3-6, 7-5, 6-2, 7-5 at the 2008 U.S. Open on Saturday to advance to the third round.

Roddick once again used his powerful serve to control the match as he blasted 21 aces while committing just 3 double faults. Gulbis also showcased his serving power as he collected 19 aces but committed ten double faults and an astounding 60 unforced errors.

Roddick is looking for his second Grand Slam title; he won the U.S. Open in 2003. He has finished second at Wimbledon twice, 2004, 2005 and the U.S. Open in 2006, all three losses were to Roger Federer.
