The #7 LSU Tigers put to bed Appalachian State’s hopes of starting the 2008 college football season in the same manner as last year as the SEC powerhouse pounded the Mountaineers 41-13 on Saturday in a game moved up in time due to the impending dangers of Hurricane Gustav.
It was the Tigers who were the destructive force on Saturday though as they racked up 456 yards of total offense while their defense limited Appalachian State to just 51 yards on the ground.
Charles Scott scored a pair of first half touchdowns on runs of 8-yards and 29-yards as the Tigers built a 31-0 lead at the break and then cruised the rest of the way.
The Mountaineers got on the board in the third quarter when Armanti Edwards hit Robert Welton on a 44-yard touchdown to cut the score to 31-7 but the Tigers buckled down on defense and Appalachian State’s chances were fewer and further between the rest of the way.
Scott finished with 160 yards on the ground for the Tigers while Jarrett Lee was 6/11 for 116 yards passing and two touchdowns.
LSU will take on Troy next week
