College Football Scores: #1 Georgia Bulldogs Knock Off Georgia Southern in Opener

The #1 Georgia Bulldogs started their 2008 college football season with an impressive 45-21 victory over the Georgia Southern Eagles on Saturday. The final score didn’t indicate the dominance of the Dogs as they held a 38-0 lead late in the third quarter before the Eagles offense scored on Georgia’s second-string defense.

Heisman Trophy candidate Knowshon Moreno rushed for 59 yards and three touchdowns on just eight carries while freshman Caleb King totaled up 95 yards on 12 carries. Matt Stafford had a strong game under center as well as he threw for 275 yards and a pair of TDs on 13/22 passing.

Moreno scored on runs of two and three yards in the first half and Stafford had a 61-yard touchdown pass to Kris Durham as the Bulldogs opened up a 24-0 lead at halftime. Moreno then scored on a 24-yard run early in the third and Stafford hit Demiko Goodman on a 5-yard toss to push the advantage to 38-0.

Georgia’s offense totaled 535 yards on the day while the defense allowed 290 yards.

The Bulldogs will be hosting Central Michigan next week.
