College Football Scores: #16 BYU Cougars Roll Past Northern Iowa as Max Hall Throws for 486 Yards

The #16 BYU Cougars opened their 2008 football season with an aerial assault and bombed their way to a 41-17 victory over the Northern Iowa Panthers on Saturday.

BYU jumped on Northern Iowa early as Max Hall threw a pair of first quarter touchdowns, the second TD went to Harvey Unga from 19-yards out. Unga then added a pair of rushing touchdowns in the second quarter and the Cougars went into halftime with a 27-3 lead.

Just as it looked like the Cougars would roll the Panthers worked their way back into the game in the third as Victor Williams hit Josh Collins on a 76 yard touchdown pass and Mark Huygens recovered a fumble in the endzone to cut the Northern Iowa deficit to 27-17 heading into the fourth.

BYU pushed their lead back to 17 early in the fourth quarter when Hall scored on a one-yard keeper that iced the game.

Hall finished with 486 yards passing and two touchdowns while Dennis Pitta was the main beneficiary of Hall’s arm as he collected 213 yards receiving on 11 cathces.

BYU will take on the Washington Huskies next week.
