In an effort to solidify a lasting peace deal Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert and Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas continued talks in Jerusalem on Sunday.
The two sides have been part of U.S.-backed peace talks since late last year but have yet to come to a fundamental agreement surrounding issues regarding borders for a future Palestinian state, settlements in the West Bank and the status of Jerusalem.
Talks could further be strained next month when Olmert resigns from his position as prime minister. Olmert had faced continued pressure to resign following a series of corruption charges related to money he received from a U.S.-Israeli businessman.
Olmert is scheduled to resign on Sept. 17, the day his Kadima party elects a new leader.
Next month both sides are scheduled to meet in Washington where they were to present a framework agreement to President George Bush.
