Nikolay Davydenko pushed through to the fourth round at the 2008 U.S. Open on Sunday after beating fellow Russian Dmitry Tursunov in straight sets 6-2, 7-6 (8-3), 6-3.
Davydenko played a conservative style of tennis on Sunday, allowing Tursunov to make the mistakes and it paid off. While Davydenko gave away just two points on double faults Tursunov committed six as well as 36 unforced errors. Davydenko also capitalized on his break point opportunities, taking serve on 4 of 11 chances while Tursunov was just 1 of 7 in break point opportunities.
Davydenko is still searching for his first Grand Slam singles title. The past two years he has reached the semifinals at the U.S. Open.
