Strong European partnership has washed out the American golfers' dream of winning the Ryder Cup, which is being played in Wales, England.
Colin Montgomerie, who is leading the European Ryder Cup team, devised a strategy of offensive and he got more than what he had planned for. American team, which comprises of golfing giants Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson, was unable to sustain the onslaught of the European golfers. The European team had a lead of 9 1/2-6 1/2 after the conclusion of pairs play.
US Captain Corey Pavin is confident that his team will stage a come back. There is a past example for them when the Americans rallied from a 10-6 defeat on the 1999 Sunday at Brookline.
Monday is expected to seal the deal for the prized championship. Montgomorie is expected to lead the single matches. Lee Westwood, who has yet to face any defeat in his nine career foursomes matches, will face Steve Stricker. The match will be followed by Rory McIlroy pitted against Stewart Cink. Luke Donald will face Jim Furyk in the third match.
Martin Kaymer of Germany will face Dustin Johnson in the singles match. Ian Poultor will face Matt Kuchar and Miguel Angel Jimenez will play Bubba Watson. Tiger Woods, who is struggling to stay on course after emerging from personal scandals, will play Francesco Molinari in singles on Monday. Woods has yet to find his swing as he struggled on Sunday when he was teamed up with Steve Stricker. They lost to Westwood and Donald 6 and 5.
