Man Stabbed Over Baseball Argument

Red Sox Fan Assaulted by Yankees Fan

On Saturday, a man in Connecticut was stabbed over what have may have just been a very intense argument over baseball. Police in Branford, Connecticut responded to a report of a man being stabbed at a restaurant late Saturday night. According to a report from NewsCore, when the cops arrived on the scene, "they saw friends of the victim chasing John Mayor, 45, through the restaurant’s parking lot. When Mayor saw the police, they said, he threw away the knife he was carrying under his jacket. An argument about baseball had apparently erupted between Mayor, a Yankees fan, and the victim, Monte Freire, a Red Sox supporter, police said." Police arrested Mayor and charged him with a string of crimes, including first-degree assault, interfering with an officer, tampering with evidence, possession of a controlled substance, and breach of peace. Mayor is now being held on $500,000 bond. Freire was taken to a local hospital, where he underwent emergency surgery. As of Sunday, this unfortunate Red Sox fan was in critical condition.
