Fans of Justin Morneau will have to wait for months before they could see their ace player in action. Morneau's injuries will prevent his play for the Minnesota Twins' playoff run for the second straight season.
Morneau, who was crowned as the 2006 American League Most Valuable Player, is struggling with his injuries that have engulfed him since July 7. He is suffering from a concussion and the Twins are afraid that he will not be able to stage a comeback this postseason.
The All-Star first baseman missed a golden opportunity to make his entry during the best-of-five AL Division Series against the New York Yankees. The games will open tomorrow in Minneapolis.
General Manager Bill Smith is not positive about Morneau's regaining of his fitness anytime soon. He said that Morneau's conditions may not allow for his participations in the American League Championship Series or World Series. He also said that it was better to shut down the possibility for a while until he fully recovers.
Morneau has a bright record on the field. In 81 games, he was hitting.345 with 18 home runs and 56 runs batted in. The injury came when Blue Jays second baseman John McDonald kneed him in the hand during a game in Toronto. The injury was accidental and there were no hints of foul play.
This is not the first time that Morneau has missed a game or a series. He was also absent of the 2009 Major League Baseball postseason as he had suffered a stress fracture in his lower back.
