Shooting spree in Gainesville

Five people were wounded as a 24-yr-old mentally unstable man went on a shooting spree around Gainesville area. Clifford Lewis Miller Jr. killed his father and left him in the house they shared before going to an acquaintance’s house some distance away.

The police responded to calls of shots being heard and arrived at the scene to find the suspect dead in his car. He died apparently of a self inflicted gun shot.

Initially, the officers thought that it was a random act of shooting, but as the full story was heard, it appeared as though Clifford had chosen his victims. He had passed by several people whilst driving around in his car with the gun and chose to ignore them. All the surviving victims have given similar descriptions of the e gunman corresponding to that of Clifford. Two of the people were shot outside the city limits. Both of them are having reportedly had fatal shots. They are being looked after at the local hospital.

The reason for the shooting remains shrouded in mystery, leaving both the relatives and the police baffled. All the five victims were male. There seems to be no relation between the suspect and the victims.

Clifford has a long police record including drug possession, battery, burglary and larceny. At the time he was judged physically and mentally incompetent to stand trial. His grandfather says that he was diabetic and did not hold a steady job. It seems that Clifford had recently been released from a metal health care facility. The neighborhood in which he and his father lived remembers Miller Sr. as a very loving and caring neighbor.

As the middle class working neighborhood gathered around Miller’s house, the rumor flying around was that he had chosen his victims based on who had wronged him in the past.
