Time Square Bomber Faisal Shahzad Sentenced to Life in Prison

Faisal Shahzad was sentenced to life in prison Tuesday for attempting to detonate a bomb in Times Square on May 1. Shahzad pleaded guilty to all 10 charges against him. The charges include attempting to use a weapon of mass destruction and attempting to commit international terrorism.

Shahzad planted the bomb in a car and parked it in Times Square. The bomb failed to detonate and Shahazad, 30, was arrested two days later at John F. Kennedy International Airport on an Emirate Airlines flight bond for Dubai.

To prepare for the attack, Shahazad spent time in Pakistan with members of the Taliban. He received weapons training and was given $5,000 by the Taliban to help fund the attack. Shahzad also appeared in a Taliban video praising the attack. "I have been trying to join my brothers in jihad every day since 9/11 happened. I am planning to wage an attack inside America,” he says in the video according to court documents.

Shahzad planned to carry out more attacks after the Times Square bombing.
