9 children Dead in Series of Explosions in Afghanistan

Afghan government officials confirm 9 children and 1 adult were killed Tuesday when improvised explosive devices detonated near the city of Kandahar. The series of 5 blasts occurred around 7:30 p.m. in a residential area. A government official says 25 people were injured.

On Monday night, a series of three explosions killed three Afghan police officers. Earlier in the day Kandahar deputy mayor Noor Ahmad Nazari was killed in an insurgent attack.

The city is the birthplace of the Taliban. Afghan and NATO forces are trying to push insurgents out of the area.
