Lauren Conrad promotes alcohol-free and drug-free lifestyle for teens

Actress urges teens to stay away from drugs

Television sweetheart Lauren Conrad is hoping to charm and win over even more teenagers with her newest public service announcement that encourages teens to stay away from alcohol and drugs.

During her Public Service Announcement, Lauren describes her childhood and mentions that one of her first encounters with drugs was in the sixth or seventh or grade.

“Hearing Lauren recount her experiences regarding exposure to drug use as a teenager should be a real eye-opener for parents,” begins a spokesperson for Mountainside Drug Rehab and Alcohol Treatment Center. “Many parents truly don’t understand the magnitude of the drug issues facing children today. It’s not like it was when they were growing up—children are being exposed to drugs and alcohol at a younger age. Think about it: In the 60’s you were truly a rebel if you smoked a cigarette. Nowadays, children are smoking at an earlier age and beginning their experimentation with other substances, including alcohol, at an early age. The middle school years are such a tumultuous time for kids and, during that time, they are more easily influenced to make wrong choices that could affect them for their entire lives. It is our jobs as parents and society to help them navigate their way to the proper choices that will give them the optimum chance for the enjoyment of life. It is great to see such a positive role model from Hollywood encouraging teenagers to stay away from drugs and alcohol. We’d love to see more actors and actresses doing this very thing. When a person whom a teenager idolizes talks about staying away from drugs and alcohol, teens are more apt to take it to heart than if some authoritative person says it. Lauren’s message is clear: ‘Staying drug and alcohol-free is the coolest way to be’. And we couldn’t agree more.”

The program, along with its professional addiction treatment team, has earned national recognition and resulted in Mountainside being invited to Washington by the White House to meet with the White House Drug Czar, John P. Waters, for an in-depth meeting on what makes its program so successful. These accolades did not go unnoticed within the addiction treatment field and resulted in the adoption by many throughout the country of a more holistic approach to drug addiction treatment.
