The Seattle Sounders FC clinched the U.S. Open Cup championship trophy second time in a row by defeating the Columbus Crew 2-1.
Sanna Nyassi was the match winner for his team when he scored in the 38th and 66th minutes. The team recovered from an early goal from Columbus' Kevin Burns and ultimately went on to win the tournament.
Seattle got an early control of the match thanks to Fredy Montero's quick moves. He, however, was unable to score a goal in the second minute when his 10-yard header was protected by Crew goal keeper Andy Gruenebaum. He made many other moves but was unable to score.
Columbus got an early control when they made quick attacks from the right side and succeeded in scoring the opening goal.
Nyassi came to the rescue of his team in the 38th minute when he stroked from 18 yards low to the right side past Gruenebaum.
The second chance came for Nyassi in the 66th minute when he used the opportunity of an open field as Gruenebaum was entangled in the goal net after saving an earlier attempt by Steve Zakuani.
Columbus increased their attacks after the goal as they were desperate to level the game. They were almost succeeded in doing that when Robbie Rogers's hit came within inches of the goal post but it was quickly saved by the Seattle goalie. That put an end to Columbus' chances of victory.
Seattle beat D.C. United last year and became the second team after the New York Pancyprian-Freedoms to win consecutive titles.
