Delaware Republican candidate Christine O’Donnell went on air Tuesday with a simple ad to try and win over voters.
The ad was created by Fred Davis, who is the Republican ad genius known for his provocative lines and inflammatory tag lines, such as the now-infamous “Demon Sheep.” Many were assuming that Davis’s talents would be put to use for a rousing TV onslaught, but O’Donnell has gone for a simpler message, perhaps saving the millions she raised via online channels for a later Davis-style “shock-and-awe” campaign.
The first of O’Donnell’s ads is remarkably simple. O’Donnell, with straightened hair and a somber navy jacket speaks directly to the camera, no fluff, no bells and whistles. “I’m not a witch,” is O’Donnell’s opening line, in reference to the infamous 1999 statement where she confessed to dabbling in witchcraft. Davis said that he put that line in to "once and for all put that behind her, and let people know we're moving on from that to things that really matter today."
Davis further said that his intention with the ad was to show the real Christine, to show that she is an “everywoman” but one who “was so disappointed in our government that she was moved to action, to try and do something about it."
O’Donnell, speaking straight to the camera, finishes the ad by telling viewers “I Am You.” Voters may or may not be happy to hear that they are Christine O’Donnell, depending on which side of the political game-court they are on.
