Yankees Victory at Stake as Bets Falter

The New York Yankees will be playing the Minnesota Twins tonight at Target Field but their chances of clinching the World Series have diminished in recent months, at least in the wagering circles.

The Yankees will play Game 1 of the ALDS against the Twins tonight in what is considered as an opener to the preseason. They have been listed at 7-2 by Bodog and they are trailing the Phillies 2-1. Nick Swisher of the Yankees does not buy the bets as he thinks that it is hard to suggest that a team like Yankees has been relegated to a second spot

The MGM Mirage in Las Vegas is still favoring the Yankees as 2-1 as the bet has not been changed since it was installed last week. If proved true, this will clinch a second consecutive win for the Yankees and their 28th World Series.

The Yankees are expected to win tonight's game in what is the second straight best-of-five ALDS but have a roadblock in the form of their 9-17 finish to the regular season. They gained entry into the postseason through a wild card and this is not auguring well for the supporters of the last year's winners.

“If you want to call us underdogs, we will take that role,” Alex Rodriguez of the Yankees said nonchalantly.

Twins' manager Ron Gardenhire thinks that they can still turn the tables on the Yankees although the history is not on their side. They were swept over last year and also lost to the Yankees in 2003, and 2004.
