Food stamps are meant to ensure that people receive the bare minimum nutrition and caloric intake. It is one of Maslow’s basic needs, and as such, food or the lack of it has been related to increasing levels of criminal activity as well. New York City alones doles out food stamps to a whopping 1.7 million people. Could this be why there is a budget crisis in so many cities and how much fraud is involved? These food stamps are unfortunately also being used to buy sugared drinks and sodas! These have absolutely no nutritional value and are known to increase a person’s sugar levels and weight drastically.
Good Call Mayor
The U.S. has been plagued by obesity and all the other horrors it brings in tow. Sodas are definitely food items that contribute to obesity. The New York mayor has now asked for a legislation that disallows or bars these sugar drinks from being bought using food stamps.
A Serious Decision
Obesity has a whole list of issues that come along with it. These include arterial blockage, high cholesterol, diabetes, and other cardiac problems. Better eating habits and exercising can help exorcise this demon. Another way to shed the negative affects of obesity and excess weight is by using the scientific process of liposuction. Lipo or smart lipo is the option that most people clamor for in order to stop the excess stress that they put their organs through by their disproportionate weight.
Short Term Answer
One needs to understand that liposuction has its limitations. It is, in essence, a cosmetic surgery. It can give you the desired body shape by sucking out the excess fat but lipo does not affect the calorie intake in an obese person. As such, lipo is not a cure for obesity. Liposuction allows a short term goal to be met, that is, to have a better body. In the long run, obesity can only be solved by dietary changes and exercising.
For Once, Good Legislation
The legislation against sugared drinks and sodas, if passed, could go a long way to ensure that the consumption of these drinks is lowered and so is the rate of obesity in the country. It is a case of; the journey of a million miles begins with one step.
