Republican National Convention Scaled Back, Laura Bush and Cindy McCain to Speak Monday

The Republican National Convention has had events scaled back due to Hurricane Gustav yet first lady Laura Bush and presumptive first lady Cindy McCain will address delegates in St. Paul, Minnesota on Monday at the Xcel Energy Center later on Monday.

While Laura Bush, President George Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney were scheduled to speak to delegates this evening those plans have been cancelled due to Hurricane Gustav. President Bush has headed to Texas to monitor response operations as Gustav makes landfall.

Laura Bush and Cindy McCain will speak to delegates at the end of the convention’s opening session call.

The RNC is being called into order in order to officially nominate John McCain and Sarah Palin as the Republican ticket for the 2008 presidential election.
