2008 U.S. Open Results: Mardy Fish into Quarterfinals After Beating Gael Monfils in Straight Sets

Mardy Fish has advanced to the quarterfinals at the 2008 U.S. Open after beating Gael Monfils in straight sets 7-5, 6-2, 6-2 on Monday.

While Fish didn’t exactly dominate in the match he certainly took advantage of his opportunities as he converted 6 of 13 break point opportunities compared to just 1 of 7 for Monfils. Fish managed to get just 47 percent of his first serves in and committed 49 unforced errors but still found a way to advance.

Prior to this year Fish had never been past the second round at the U.S. Open and his furthest push at a Grand Slam was the quarterfinals at the Australian Open in 2007.
