Pro-Surfer and Musician Timmy Curran the Special Guest on New Episode of All Access

Sam also heads to DFest in Tulsa to hang with heavy metal band, Helmet

On an all new episode of All Access, Samantha Maloney spends a relaxing Southern California day with retired pro-surfer and singer-songwriter, Timmy Curran. Curran, who is most famous for completing a full rotation, upside-down flip in two-foot surf known worldwide as "The Flip", made his musical breakthrough in his late twenties after his song "Horses on the Range" was featured in a documentary about legendary surfboard shaper Al Merrick. Curran has since released an 11-track album titled “Word of Mouth” via Adeline Records, and has opened for bands such as Switchfoot, Eisley, and the Foo Fighters.

Samantha begins the day at Curran’s private studio to chat about his pro-surfing career, the bumpy road to his success as a musician, and his new album “Word of Mouth”. After their conversation, Curran grabs his guitar to treat Sam and viewers to a private acoustic set of his song “Blue Eyes”.  The duo ends the day at the beach to teach Sam how to surf.

Sam then heads to DFest, a rock music festival in Tulsa, Oklahoma, to catch up with American post-hardcore/heavy metal band, Helmet. Helmet has released six studio albums and two compilations since forming in 1989. The band’s most famous album “Meantime” debuted on the Billboard 200 charts at Number 68 in 1992.

About Timmy Curran

Tim Curran (born August 14, 1977) is a musician, retired professional surfer and a spokesperson for the Surfrider Foundation. During his successful surfing career, he was one of the best surfers on the World Championship Tour, and was consistently in contention for the world championship. Curran was raised and still resides near the Silver Strand Beach neighborhood of Oxnard in Southern California, just outside of Los Angeles. He was born in the San Fernando Valley, but spent some of his childhood in the southern Riverside County city of Temecula. Temecula is roughly an hour from the ocean, so at age 5 his father started driving him to the beach every weekend and taught him to surf. He obtained his first sponsorship at age eleven from McCrystal Surfboards and was competing as a professional surfer by age sixteen. He is considered to be the pioneer of surfing's "Aerial Revolution" of the late 1990s, and is famous for completing a full rotation, upside-down flip in two-foot surf at Rocky Point in Hawaii during winter of 2005. This popular aerial achievement has become known worldwide as simply "The Flip".
