Wozniacki, Djokovic Reach Semifinals Of China Open In Straight Sets
Top seeds Caroline Wozniacki and Novak Djokovic have made it to the semifinals of China Open on Friday, whereas local favorite Li Na achieved her career-best result in the home tournament to give the home crowd something to cheer about. Meanwhile, Andy Murray was defeated by Croatia's Ivan Ljubicic 6-3, 6-2.
Djokovic, the defending champion who is ranked number two in the world, defeated Frenchman Gilles Simon 6-3, 6-2 to secure his place in the semis. "I'm very happy that my serve is getting better and better, and hopefully I'm going to use it more and more", he said.
The runner-up of the US Open is in great form and believes that his appearance at the semifinals of the Wimbledon has given him with a confidence boost. Djokovic will now meet America's John Isner who defeated Russian Nikolay Davydenko 7-6 (4), 6-4.
Murray, who was making his first appearance after the US open, failed to produce an impressive comeback against Ljubicic. "I just didn't hit the ball that well and made quite a few mistakes", he said after the game.
Ljubici will face David Ferrer in the second semifinal after the Spaniard thrashed Sweden's Robin Soderling 6-2, 6-4.
Wozniacki, who will be crowned number one on Monday for the first time, managed to overcome a troubling knee injury in round two to defeat former number one Ana Ivanovic 7-6 (1), 6-3. Even though painful, the injury doesn't look serious, she said after the game.
