Ohio State running back Chris "Beanie" Wells did not practice Monday and it is uncertain if Wells will play in the Buckeyes' next game this Saturday.
Wells, a Heisman Trophy candidate and frontrunner, went down in the third quarter of the Buckeyes' opening game against Youngstown State on Saturday.
Wells began grabbing his right foot as the OSU home crowd remained utterly silent as he was helped off of the field. Wells had 13 carries for 111 yards and a touchdown at the time he was injured.
Wells was taken to the team doctors and given X-rays. His X-rays were negative and he returned to the field with a boot on his ankle.
OSU head coach Jim Tressel has not determined if Wells will play in their game on Saturday against Ohio. However, it is most important to know if Wells will play in their huge matchup against USC on Sept. 13 at the L.A. Coliseum.
Wells' injury could potentially have an impact on this year's national title race and the Heisman Trophy chase. Many believe Wells is the best running back in college football and the best running back at Ohio State since 1996 Heisman Trophy winner Eddie George.
Last season, Wells rushed for 1,609 yards and scored 15 touchdowns last year in helping lead Ohio State to the Big Ten title and the BCS National Championship Game in New Orleans.
