The Philadelphia Phillies clean sweep the National League division series by beating the the Cincinnati Reds, 2-0. The Phillies will now face the winner of the San Francisco Giants and the Atlanta Braves division series in the NL championship series, which will start Saturday in Philadelphia.
The game was won easily, as was expected, with Cole Hamels playing brilliantly and his strikeout sealing the deal in favor of the Phillies. The Phillies have performed exceptionally well this postseason and Roy Halladay, their star player, created a record when he threw a no-hitter against the Reds in the same series; Hamels just completed the slew of excellent baseball records.
Hamels did not do this for the first time as he was a
match winner in the earlier postseason games that the Phillies ultimately went
on to win. He gave five hits in last night's game and struck out nine,
with no walks.
Placido
Polanco scored on Jayson Werth's two-out grounder and in the fifth Phillie's Chase Utley's two-out solo home run put Phillie ahead 2-0.
The Reds made 11 hits and 7 errors during their first postseason in 15 years and this may not auger well for some fans. The Phillies are a favorite for the World Series.
