Microsoft Ready To Release Windows Phone 7
In a matter of a few hours, Microsoft will reveal for the first time products and services based on its latest Windows Phone 7 operating system for mobile.
Steve Ballmer, the company's CEO, along with executives from MS's partners, will attend the launch ceremony in Chelsea neighborhood in New York City to promote the platform, which according to analysts is the last chance for the company to make its mark in the highly crucial mobile industry.
Ballmer admits that MS has been late in introducing a smartphone operating system that can work with a variety of applications in addition to allowing users to connect with cloud services and social media. This is the reason why MS is trailing behind Google, which has rocked the mobile market with its highly popular Android operating system, and Apple, with its spectacular iPhone.
MS has not disclosed sales forecasts for its Windows Phone 7, and the appliances that will support it.
Gartner has predicted that the launch of Windows Phone 7 will help MS to increase its share of the global mobile OS industry from 4.7% this year to 5.2% next year, but believes that by 2014 the share will eventually fall to 3.9%.
It is being said that MS plans to spend 400 million dollars on advertising Windows Phone 7 and will be relying on its partners to help it outdo its competitors. Handset manufactures that are willing to introduce Windows Phone 7 devices to the market include Samsung, LG and HTC, whereas carriers include T-Mobile and AT&T.
