Charity golf tournaments have a new fundraising idea with the launch of the U.S. Putting Tour. This new amateur putting tour enables charity golf tournaments to hold official USPT
putting competitions in conjunction with their events.
A charity golf event that holds a USPT putting competition will be able to qualify the winner for the USPT national
putting championship in September 2011. The charity can establish its own format and entry for the putting tournament and can hold it as part of a golf tournament or as its own freestanding golf fundraising event.
"The U.S. Putting Tour wants to help all charities by raise additional donations through golf by holding USPT local qualifying tournaments as fundraising events," said USPT founder Jim Hartley. "It's a fun way for golfers to contribute to the charity of their choice and have a chance to qualify for the USPT National Championship."
A charity can run a USPT qualifying event and fundraiser at any golf course at any time, whether the charity is running a golf tournament there or not. The charity can get the club professional's permission to use a portion of the club's practice putting green for a day, so all golfers at the golf course that day have the opportunity to enter the charity's USPT event.
Charities also can hold the
putting tournament prior to the start of a golf fundraiser. While many charities already incorporate a putting tournament in their day, by making it an official USPT qualifying event, where the winner qualifies for the national championship, the charity can expect more entrants and a larger contribution.
