Wozniacki Beat Zvonareva To Win China Open Title
New tennis number one Caroline Wozniacki defeated Vera Zvonareva 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 on Monday to take the 2010 China Open title. Wozniacki managed to convert 3 out of her 4 break points in a game that was postponed due to heavy rains on Sunday.
Zvonareva took a 3-2 lead in the first set but then lost 5 consecutive games. She was broken twice in the third set, allowing Wozniacki to lead by 3-0.
Wozniacki played excellent tennis, nicely controlling her shots and not letting her opponent to gain any momentum. The Dane managed to hold serve throughout the crucial set, whereas Zvonareva was once broken and opened the door of victory for Wozniacki which she took full advantage of.
Earlier on Monday, Novak Djokovic successfully defended his men's single title by thrashing Spain's David Ferrer 6-2, 6-4.
"I started off really well but then I lost the momentum, I kind of lost the rhythm, got him back into the match with some unforced errors", stated the Serb, who successfully converted 4 out of 6 break points while only being broken once to claim the second title of this season. "It wasn't a really nice looking match from both sides. We made a lot of unforced errors, especially him. He made my life a little bit easier at the end of the second set, where, with his unforced errors, I got back into the set", Djokovic said.
