The Philadelphia Flyers thrashed the Colorado Avalanche 4-2 in what appeared to be a close call and a rebound from a mid-match tie.
The Flyers were on the offensive right from the start and
were ready to give a victory to their cheering fans in the Wells
Fargo Center
in Philadelphia.
Jeff Carter's goal with 2:38 left in the third period that brought victory to the Flyers. His first goal was a tie breaker when his puck ditched Avalanche goalie Craig Anderson and entered the goal post.
Darroll Powe contributed to the Flyers' victory by scoring an empty-net goal thus helping his home team to raise their Eastern Conference championship banner. A shorthand goal for the Flyers came from Claude Giroux at a crucial time and helped them cement their lead over the Avalanche. Rookie goalie Sergei Bobrovsky was also at hand as he put yet another solid performance with 25 saves for the Philadelphians.
Brandon Yip and Milan Hejduk did what the Avalanche is long known for doing: rallying from behind and winning the game, except this time. Both scored for the team and helped tying the game after a 2-0 thrashing earlier.
Chris Pronger made his Philadelphia lineup comeback after sustaining an off-season knee injury and staying out of the first two games. The Flyers have won two consecutive matches in the current season and are leading with 2-0-1 in the last 10 games thus brightening up their prospects for the coveted Stanley Cup.
