Star quarterback Brett Favre of the Minnesota Vikings failed to rally his team behind as they lost to the New York Jets 29-20 Monday night.
Favre put his best efforts to lead his team to victory and at times appeared to be successful in his attempts but the Jets put all his labors to rest with their power play. Dwight Lowery of the Jets returned an interception 26 yards that culminated in a touchdown with 1:30 left as the Jets won the game against a shocked Vikings.
Nick Folk of the Jets kicked five goals with two of them coming after fumbles by Favre; the latter finished 14 for 34 for 264 yards for the Vikings (1-3). He also became the first NFL player to throw 500 touchdown passes and for 70,000 yards in the process.
The Jets were not as brilliant as many of their fans wanted them to be, especially as they were playing on their home field. The offense failed to deliver any solid results for the first time since Week 1 of the current season and did not score much except for field goals. Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez was 21 of 44 for 191 yards, and without any interception thrown in this season.
Folk's fifth field goal came as a 31-yarder, who made it 15-7 with just 49 seconds left in the third quarter, thanks to Brad Smith's 86-yard kickoff return. Randy Moss made his Vikings debut with four catches for 81 yards that included a 37-yard touchdown late in the third.
