YourFindit Top 25 College Football Rankings: Ohio State Remains #1, Loses Star Chris Wells

Ohio State maintains the top spot in the top 25 college football rankings for YourFindit after week 1. The Buckeyes defeated Youngstown State, 43-0, in their 2008 season opener.

Despite the win, Heisman Trophy candidate Chris “Beanie” Wells left the game with an ankle injury during the third quarter. Wells’ status is uncertain for OSU’s game against Ohio on Saturday.  Highly-touted freshman quarterback Terrelle Pryor scored a touchdown and ran for 52 yards in his college debut.

UGA running back Knowshon Moreno needed just eight carries for 59 yards to tie his career-record of three touchdowns as he helped to lead the No. 2 Bulldogs over Georgia Southern, 45-21. UGA entered the season ranked No. 1 in the AP Top 25 College Football Poll for the first time in school history.

In his starting debut, Mark Sanchez was sensational, completing 26-of-35 passes for 338 yards and three touchdowns as No. 3 Southern Cal trampled Virginia, 52-7.

The top nine teams all won their first games, but then-No. 10 Clemson was routed by then-No. 24 Alabama, 34-10, in a bad opening weekend for ACC teams. No. 17 Virginia Tech was also upset by East Carolina, 27-22, dropping the Hokies out of the top 25.

Then-No. 25 Pittsburgh was upset by Bowling Green, 27-17, in the Panthers’ first loss to a MAC team. Pitt squandered their opening game which had the Panthers ranked in the NCAA preseason top 25 for the first time in five years.

No. 19 Tennessee lost to UCLA, 27-24, in overtime, moving the Bruins into the NCAA top 25, along with the South Carolina Gamecocks, who routed N.C. State, 34-0.
