Golfers Going For Title of Best Putter in the Land

The old golfing adage, "Drive for show, putt for dough" will be put to the test in the U.S. Putting Tour's first annual USPT National Championship, which seeks to find the best amateur putter in the country.

Amateur golfers who believe they have what it takes on the greens will vie for the title of America's Best Putter in the new national championship of putting to be held September 2011 at The Crossings at Carlsbad, a new city-owned public course in Carlsbad, California.

Golfers can leave their drivers in the bag because this putting competition will take place entirely on The Crossings' spacious practice putting green that overlooks the Pacific Ocean. Participants will battle through three rounds of putting to determine the best putter in the land.

This unique amateur golf tournament will pit men against women in a non-handicap format. All amateur golfers who are at least 13 years of age are eligible to compete for the putting crown.

Golfers can enter this national amateur golf championship directly or they can attempt to qualify in local putting tournaments that will send winners to the national finals. The USGA's rules on amateur status apply.

Golf clubs, men's clubs, ladies clubs, charity golf tournaments and golf entrepreneurs can hold USPT local qualifying events. The USPT website provides a step-by-step guide on how to host local putting tournaments.
