Kerosene Leaked into North Sea After Tanker Collides with Ship

Officials say kerosene leaked into the North Sea Tuesday when a Greek tanker collided with a Cypriot container about 18.6 miles off the coast of the Netherlands. The 5 meter long hole was ripped in the side of the tanker Minodoro, causing the aircraft fuel to leak. The container York Ranger sustained minor damages and was able to continue on to Rotterdam.

The crew quickly set to work pumping the leaking kerosene into an extra tank. Rescue teams plugged the hole. The Dutch coast guard said the leak poses no threat to the environment as kerosene evaporates quickly.

No injuries were reported. The cause of the accident is unknown.
