Apple was awarded a patent Tuesday on a program that allows a phone’s administrator to block explicit text messages from being sent or received. The anti sexting technology blocks the messages if they contain certain words.
The technology also gives the phone’s administrator the ability to set other criteria for the texts, including fixing spelling and grammatical errors. Parents would also be able to activate a setting that filters texts based on their child’s age or grade level.
The anti sexting program has not been commercialized. Alexis Tsotsis from TechCrunch does not believe the program will be able to completely stop sexting, writing that “those interesting in “Sexting” will probably find some clever workaround to express how much they want to bang, screw, hit it or a myriad of other words that don’t immediately set off the censorship sensors.”
