New England Patriots guard Logan Mankins and San Diego Chargers wide receiver Vincent Jackson will most likely report to their respective teams, according to media reports and speculations in the sporting circles.
Mankins and Jackson are currently in the free agency period in what is known as the "restricted free agents" in the football circuits. NFL Players Association is at hand to recommend them the right way of dealing with their situation.
Jackson is expected to report to the Charges by Oct. 31 but Mankins has up until Nov. 16 to decide about his continued involvement with the Patriots, according to reports published on ESPN.
There were also reports of both players threatening to sit out the season, which could have spelled trouble because they would have been relegated to their same restricted free agents position.
The Chargers have employed a roster exemption for Jackson that makes him to report earlier than Mankins. He will have to sit out three games without receiving any salary after he reports to the Chargers but will still be able to accrue a sixth season of service time.
There is a chance of them being traded to other teams before the 4 p.m. deadline of Tuesday provided they sign their contract tenders by that time. As both of them rejected the earlier tender offers of $3 million, they will now receive smaller pays from their respective teams.
NFLPA has come to the rescue of the players to ensure they would have monetary and administrative protection in 2011 and has also made arrangements to avoid any banishment from their teams.
