ALPHARETTA, GEORGIA. (October 14, 2010) — Pete’s Plumbing Inc., a family-owned and operated full-service residential and commercial plumbing company that serves Alpharetta, Georgia and nearby areas, announced that it now offers a residential Winterizing service as a convenient and affordable way to get your home ready for the fast-approaching cold weather.

Julie Lippitt, President of Pete’s Plumbing, said, “The cold weather brings with it a lot of inconvenience, but nothing is worse than frozen or burst pipes. It makes sense to prepare your primary home and especially any vacation homes where the heat may not be on at all during the season to save money on repairs and large water bills. The Pete’s Plumbing winterizing service includes the following:

• Identify parts of the plumbing system that will most likely freeze, such as an unheated crawl space or an area with an exterior wall, and focus on these areas for Winterizing;
• Turn water off at the street and close main water shut off valve as well as open all faucets (for vacant or vacation properties);
• Drain home plumbing system (for vacant or vacation properties);
• Drain plumbing systems that use a well pump and pressure tank as well as certain hot water tank heaters and furnaces that use water (for vacant or vacation properties);
• Remove all hoses from outside faucets and leave these faucets open; and
• Take care of exposed water or drain pipes by wrapping them with heat tape and then insulation. Also be sure to re-caulk any areas around the pipes where there are cracks.

If homeowners have a swimming pool and/or spa, there will also need to be some Winterizing for the pipes and equipment for this system. Although Pete’s Plumbing does not handle swimming pools, it is important to consult a swimming pool technician or equipment service manuals about how to also prepare the pipes and running water for these devices as well.
