ALPHARETTA, GEORGIA. This tax credit is part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 that was intended to encourage homeowners by making numerous energy-efficient home improvements to their home, including specific residential water heaters and boilers. Recently, the tax credit was expanded until the end of 2010. The tax credit has also been increased from 10% to 30% so that specific tankless water heater will be eligible for a tax credit of 30% of the full purchase and installation price up to a maximum of $1,500.

To claim the tax credit, get a tankless water heater installed before December 31, 2010. Save the proof of purchase and manufacturer’s certification statement. When filing a tax return for 2010, be sure to use IRS Form 5695 or consult a tax professional for further details about how to apply for this tax credit.
