Electrical Utility Stocks Ended Lower

Dynegy Inc. (NYSE:DYN) dropped 1.61% to $4.88 on about 6.20 million shares. Earlier this week, Reuters reported that Carl Icahn has become the largest stakeholder in Dynegy Inc, taking a 9.95% stake, and said Blackstone Group's $4.7 billion bid for the power company was not enough. Dynegy has said that to date there has been no better bid than Blackstone's $4.50 per share offer a 62% premium when it was made in mid August.

At current market price, the market capitalization of the company stands at $588.53 million.

RRI Energy, Inc. (NYSE:RRI) fell 2.11% to $3.72 on over 2.17 million shares. RRI Energy, Inc., formerly Reliant Energy, Inc., provides energy, capacity, ancillary and other energy services to wholesale customers in competitive energy markets in the United States through its ownership and operation of and contracting for power generation capacity.

Over the past 52-week, the stock traded within the range of $3.35-$7.16. At today`s closing market price, the market capitalization of the company stands at $4.74 billion. The stock went down more than 37% year-to-date.

The AES Corporation (NYSE:AES) went down 1.92% to $12.28 on about 5.12 million shares. Earlier this month, the company said that it planned to spend $800 million to double the size of its 660 megawatt Masinloc I coal-fired plant in the Philippines.

The company bought the plant in the country's Central Luzon region in 2008, making it the largest foreign investor in the country's power sector.

Atlantic Power Corporation (NYSE:AT) slid 0.15% to $13.48 on about 3.10 million shares. Earlier this week, the company announced that that it has priced its previously announced public offering of 5,245,000 common shares of the Company at a price of $13.35 per share. The Company has granted the underwriters a 30-day option to purchase up to 784,000 additional Common Shares to cover over-allotments, if any.

In the past six months of trading sessions, the stock went down more than 79%. The 52-week range of the stock is $12.10-$14.38.
