Verizon Communications Inc. (NYSE:VZ) added 0.71% to $32.44 on about 17.97 million shares. Apple Inc. said Thursday morning it plans to sell its iPad tablet device through retail stores owned by AT&T and Verizon. Apple said that Verizon will sell the 3G models as well as those that only work on a Wi-Fi network.
The stock opened at $32.36 and was trading within the range of $32.29-$32.67.
Wells Fargo & Company (NYSE:WFC) fell 4.22% to $24.72 on over 117.40 million shares. The company is scheduled to release third-quarter earnings before the opening bell on Wednesday, October 20, 2010. Analysts, on average, expect the company to report earnings of 55 cents per share on revenue of $20.95 billion.
The stock opened at $25.45 and was trading within the range of $24.20-$25.49. Today, 117.40 million shares were traded as compared to its average daily volume of 34.62 million shares.
Oracle Corporation (NASDAQ:ORCL) went down 0.94% to $28.33 on about 38.14 million shares on speculation that Oracle Corp. may be considering acquiring the data storage systems company, EMC Corporation.
The 52-week range of the stock is $20.65-$28.91. The stock went up more than 13% year-to-date.
Chevron Corporation (NYSE:CVX) gained 0.27% to $83.90 on over 6.73 million shares after the oil giant said yesterday that it expects third-quarter earnings will come in below its second-quarter results. The latest results are due Oct. 29.
Analysts currently expect third-quarter earnings of $2.30 a share, down from $2.70 a share in the second quarter but up from $1.72 a share Chevron posted in the third quarter of 2009.
In the past six months of trading sessions, the stock went up more than 4%. The 52-week range of the stock is $66.83-$84.50.
