Average Teenager Sends More Than 3,000 Texts Each Month
If you don't believe that texting is growing in popularity, then here is an interesting piece of information for you: the average teen sends more than 3,000 text messages per month. That is over six text messages every waking hour.
A new research by Nielsen says that our young generation has gone crazy with text messaging, app downloads and data usage. Nielsen questioned more than 3,000 teens and studied the mobile data behavior of more than 60,000 mobile phone users between April and June this year. Their findings are astonishing for many.
The number of text messages being sent is rising, particularly amongst teens aged 13-17. The average teen currently sends 3,339 text messages every month, according to Nielsen. Female teenagers send an unbelievable 4,050 text messages every month, whereas male teenagers send 2,539 texts on average. Results indicate that teenagers are now sending 8% more text messages compared to last year.
The scores of other age groups were not even close to those of teens. The average 18-24 years old only send 1,630 text messages per month, while the average drops further for older age groups. However, the number of text messages being sent has increased for every age group, which shows that texting is being seen as a more vital means of communication than ever before.
In 2008, safety was the number one reason why people bought cell phones, even for teens. But that is no longer true as 43% of teens now say that texting is the main reason why they bought a mobile phone.
