Michael Jordan: "I Could Have Scored 100 Points"

NBA Legend Talks About Changes in Sport, and Kobe

In a recent interview for USA Today, basketball legend Michael Jordan says that he could have been even more successful during his NBA career if he had played under today's NBA rules. "It's less physical and the rules have changed, obviously," said Jordan, who won 6 NBA Finals MVP titles in 6 NBA Finals victories with the Chicago Bulls. "Based on these rules, if I had to play with my style of play, I'm pretty sure I would have fouled out or I would have been at the free throw line pretty often and I could have scored 100 points." In other words, Jordan thinks that he could have been the second coming of Wilt Chamberlain (who scored 100 points in a single game in 1962) if the rules of today were in place when he was playing.

In fact, the only person who has ever even come close to matching Chamberlain's record is NBA great Kobe Bryant, who once scored 81 points in a single game against the Toronto Raptors. So what does Jordan think about Kobe, who is considered by some to be the greatest basketball player of all time? When asked to rank Bryant among the all-time greats, Jordan told USA Today, "It's so hard to say. I think he is always going to be within the conversations of some of the greatest players who've played by the time he is finished. Where does he rank among those, if you are talking about positions? If you are talking about guards, I would say he has got to be in the top 10."
