NFL Matchups Week 6 October 17th

All the Matchups for NFL Sunday and Monday Night

Seattle at Chicago 1:00 PM FOX Soldier Field

-        The Bears have Jay Cutler back under center as they host the Seahawks.  Newly acquired Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch will have a tough road ahead of him against Chicago’s stifling run defense.

Miami at Green Bay 1:00 PM CBS Lambeau Field

-          The Packers get little relief from injuries this week.  Aaron Rodgers is cleared to play after suffering a concussion last week, but TE Jermichael Finley and several other key players are still out.  Miami is coming off of a bye and will play hard trying to avoid losing their third straight game

San Diego at St. Louis 1:00 PM CBS Edward Jones Dome

-          After a hard loss to the Raiders, the Chargers look to bounce back in St. Louis, where they have never won.  Steven Jackson looks to carry the load for the Rams as their receiving corps has been in the past few weeks.  If Jackson can manage a good game, he may not only secure a St. Louis victory, but also his place as the franchise’s leading rusher.

Baltimore at New England 1:00 PM CBS Gillette Stadium

-          The Patriots take on one of the best defensive units in the NFL without its star wide receiver Randy Moss, who was traded to the Vikings last week.  Seeking revenge against the team that knocked them out of the playoffs last year, New England will have to step up their pass defense against a smart Joe Flacco.

New Orleans at Tampa Bay 1:00 PM FOX Raymond James Stadium

-          The defending champs have been very beatable this year and the surprising Buccaneers look to take an advantage in the NFC South where both teams are 1-1.  With injuries to Pierre Thomas and Reggie Bush, the Saints have looked like they came straight out of Madden, throwing the ball nearly 40 times a game.

Detroit at NY Giants 1:00 PM FOX New Meadowlands Stadium

-          The Lions will give Matt Stafford another two weeks to heal his shoulder and send Shaun Hill in against the crushing Giants defense.  Hill will have to get rid of the ball quick without his best receiver as Calvin Johnson is still questionable for the game.  Offensively, the Giants will look to get the ball to Hakeem Nicks, who has proven to be a trusted receiver.

Atlanta at Philadelphia 1:00 PM FOX Lincoln Financial Field

-          Michael Vick’s must wait to play his former teams as Kevin Kolb has been named the starter for this week’s matchup.  These teams have a history and always play well against each other.  Atlanta is rolling and seems to be finding its midseason form already.  If the Eagles defensive schemes can’t get to Matt Ryan, look for big games from Roddy White and Tony Gonzalez.

Cleveland at Pittsburgh 1:00 PM CBS Heinz Field

-          Pittsburgh seems to have an easy game this weekend against a Browns team that was soundly beaten by the Falcons last week.  The return of Big Ben is the biggest story here after his six game suspension to start the beginning of the season.  Keep an eye on Browns RB Peyton Hillis, who has emerged as a workhorse this far into the season.

Kansas City at Houston 1:00 PM CBS Reliant Stadium

-          The Chiefs are coming off their first loss of the season and face a challenge in the Texans.  Jamaal Charles and Dexter McCluster are two of the many Chiefs players that have helped lead them to the best start in quite a few seasons.  Look for Brian Cushing to continue his good play on defense for Houston and Andre Johnson to continue to produce as he heals his ankle.

Oakland at San Francisco 4:05 PM CBS Candlestick Park

-          Alex Smith needs a big game this week to prove that his coaches’ confidence hasn’t been misplaced.  The winless chargers are facing a team with quarterback issues of its own.  Look for Jason Campbell to start this weekend for the Raiders.  The matchup between the Oakland running backs and the 49ers linebackers will likely decide the outcome of this game.

NY Jets at Denver 4:05 PM CBS Invesco Field at Mile High

-          The surging Jets visit Mile High Stadium to face a Broncos team who is struggling with injuries to key players.  Safety Brian Dawkins and Running Back Knowshon Moreno have been sidelined and are dearly missed on their respective sides of the ball.  The Jets are leading the league in rushing and continue to expect high numbers from Ladanian Tomlinson and Shonn Greene

Dallas at Minnesota 4:15 PM FOX Metrodome

-          Brett Favre needs to find a rhythm this week against the Cowboys to keep any hopes of the playoffs alive.  Likewise Dallas is facing a do-or-die game of its own much earlier in the season than they had hoped.  The Vikings defense will have their hands full with Dez Bryant and Miles Austin after their starting cornerback was hurt on Monday night.

Indianapolis at Washington 8:20 PM NBC FedEx Field

After a game where he was held without a touchdown, Peyton Manning wants to put up big numbers against the worst defense in the NFL.  Albert Haynesworth is returning to the team after missing last week’s game while attending a funeral.

MON, OCT 18

Tennessee at Jacksonville 8:30 PM  EverBank Field

Chris Johnson looks to keep his rollercoaster season going up after last week’s performance.  The Jaguars need their own running back, Maurice Jones-Drew to have a big game against after injuring his wrist last weekend.  Both teams are currently in a tie for first place in the AFC South and are looking to take a step in the right direction with a win on Monday night.

Bye: Buffalo, Cincinnati, Arizona, Carolina
