everybodygreen.com's 3G division has introduced a line of PLA based eco - friendly disposable cutlery. PLA (polylactic acid) is a biodegradable polyester derived from corn starch, a renewable resource. This is yet another step in everybodygreen.com's quest to cease the unnecessary use of petroleum based plastics.
Keith Berman, director of everybodygreen states, " It is estimated that over 40 billion polystyrene utensils are thrown into landfills across the United States alone every year. Now we can all divert these disposables to the compost heap."
The raw materials for 3G's bio - cutlery can be produced with significantly lower environmental impact as their petroleum based counterparts, as well as being annually renewable.
Mr. Berman continues, "I always recommend the "reuse" method wherever possible. If it is realistic and practical at any given moment, then by all means, reusable cutlery should be the number one choice. We are incredibly excited that we have now introduced a preferable alternative to plastic cutlery, for when reusable is simply not a feasable option."
By composting biodegradable plastic along with other biodegradable waste, we can generate humus, a carbon - rich soil, instead of filling up our precious and valuable land with waste.
everybodygreen.com's 3G extremely heavy duty, eco - friendly cutlery is available on the Eco - Shop page of their website for an introductory cost of $4.95 for a 48 piece box, (16 each - spoons, forks and knives) and soon to be featured at select nationwide retailers.
With an ultimate goal to raise $1 million by the end of 2008, everybodygreen.com donates proceeds from every item sold to a selection of non - profit organizations including Oceana, Earth Resource Foundation, The Clean Water Fund and Heal the Bay. Their progress may be tracked on the Donation Tracker page of their website.
